love what you've done so far mark. im in about the same boat. waiting on parts to arrive so i can start reassembly. had my frame powdercoated.paintedmy tank and side coversmy self.added a flame job and then clearcoated.it came out really nice. i also taped off the shocks and painted the coils and clearcoated to match tank.as also with lower front forks.didnt fell like repolishing them all the time. the wheels were enough work in themselves :D the engine was done about 10000 miles ago so i really didnt have to go there other than to redo carbs and add jet kit and pod filters, as soon as i purchase a scanner or a digital camera ill send you some pics. KEEPUP THE GOOD WORK AND UPDATE THEM PICS
IVE BEEN WATCHIN YOUR PROGRESS  :D :D

Thanks Ron, I will keep it updated. It's just that this is the pace at which it is moving right now. I have income tax return coming though :)

I hope to finish it with that.

winter rebuild

winter rebuild

i know what you mean  i need to spend about 200to 300 more but i don't wanna press my luck right now with the wife she's been pretty good about it so far  :o

Well we signed and sent our return. I am not going to be able to take what I need out of it to completely finish my project but I will be able to put enough on it hopefully to get the engine done. That means the bike will be road worthy again this year :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I will work on the rest of the cosmetic restoration as I go then over time. I have no choice to do it any other way so this is better than nothing. Or as my mom used to say, it's better than being poked in the eye with a sharp stick. :?

LOL!

Anywho, I am very happy about it. Looks like I will have two ride ready bikes this summer :D

Well I have good news. The tax return is here! My project will now be moving forward! Simon Lambert is hooking me up with an S fairing and brackets. What a guy :) He is doing this while moving BTW, if any of you are close enough to him, maybe he could use a hand.

I will update this again just as soon as there is progress.

Rock on!

With the monies dropped back on top of my project the engine is back under way.

Last night I spent some time cleaning up the turn signal mounting brackets and the turn signals themselves. I allowed myself to back off of this when my funds ran low but it is time to step it back up now and get it done.

I am making this post partly because so many of you have been sending me emails asking about if I was making headway and just hadn't updated my web site or if I was still at a stall. Sorry about that guys. The web site is actually current and I hope to have some things to add to it very soon.

I'll be getting a progress report on my engine today. I don't know if anything has been done yet or not beyond were we left off because this time of year Joe is spread pretty thin.

Just wanted to keep this alive. Updates are coming.

man......I thought mine took a long time....

Ok it did, 16 month to collect engine parts, bore it and install everything.

And I did everything. The only parts left from the factory, crank and cams.

But boy was it worth it!!

Did a nice easy 100 mile loop today.

So will it make Maine in June?

I am sorry to report that nothing has been done at all. I am very discouraged but this is what happens if you run out of money when Joe has the time and then drop money on him after he is swamped. It's just the way it is, no ones fault.

He said he is going to try to fit it in a little here and a little there.
I have been at this spot with him before and he always comes through
for me. I could have it faster if I would allow his other mechanics to
work on it but I do not so I have to wait. Only Joe touches my engines.

I wont wake this up again until I have something to report :(

Vance & Hines had my motor for nearly 5 months. It was'nt so bad though because I needed all that time to restore everything else on the bike. Powdercoating, polishing, chroming, ordering stuff... You know what kind of job I did. I worked on it almost non-stop for that whole 5 months. Literally every single part got attention.
When the motor was ready, so was the bike.
Don't get too frustrated, have patience, do a quality job and you'll have years of rewards! :D

Well don't feel bad. I washed the bike the other day. After fixing the melting coil problem and getting the tuning a bit better, now I am back to just riding again...have the get the good shocks rebuilt, really need new fork springs...but I have changed the oil and painted the headers!

Thx guys I appreciate the words of encouragement.
It is really disappointing to me because in my mind
I just cannot except a 550 as my main ride. It is a
mini bike to me and I really want my 1000 back!

Well, don't feel too bad. At least you have another bike to putt around on while the 1000 gets done. I did'nt have anything. All I could do to console myself was to sit on my kids BMX bike and make "vroom-vroom" noises.

Hey Hoomgar if you live close to Abilene I'll let you play with my toys; 2 TW200's trail bikes, a few street bikes and my Sportster. Then we could take out the boat and seadoo's for alittle fishing and girl chasing if you now what i mean or maybe not  . Then we could take the Falcon out for a spin with 275 shot of nitrous just to show the younger crowd how we have fun then we can hit the track for a few run on my old GS gal. And if that's not enough lets breakout the RC airplane and set the sky on fire. Then on Sunday we can watch NASCAR and knock down a few beer's ok alot of beer's or coke's until you get your bike back together. Just a thought or two or three or four!

Aight! Now we need to either move your world up here closer to me or I am going to have to move down there :)

I am not ungrateful for my 550 guys. Quite the opposite, I am VERY glad I have it and I really like that little bike. I was only stating that without my big bore bike it just doesn't seem to be the real deal and I will never have complete satisfaction until it is running again.

Liken it unto having a new high performance car of yours in for service and they give you a 4 cylinder for a loaner while it is being worked on. Your very grateful to have something to drive while your car is being worked on but your mentality is that this putt putt is only a hold over and you are very anxious to get your main ride back.

Hey hoomgar,

I know exactly how you feel....my ride has been on and off for 2yrs...

AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

That said..."this too will pass" and you will have a great runner. I have learned the hard way not to cut the corners to save time..it doesn't.

cheers. Katman

Thx man :) I need that. The progress is going very slow now because of time now instead of money. *sigh*

But I want it done right.
