Well I guess this is why I wasn't sure where this build would go. First I thought I wanted a bobber. Its fun to ride and gets lots of looks and comments, But I'm tired of dragging the exhaust on the corners so Im transforming this into something a little more corner friendly.

Cant wait for winter now. Its real close so Im just taking in the last few days riding while I can, but after that, time for a tear down.

Parts pile...

Now THATS a first... bike rider actually eager for winter LOL! Good luck to you on the future build. PM sent

yeah its getting cooler. -2 C this morning here and still gonna stick it out and ride to work till the snow comes. Then its all comin apart.

Rough sketch of winter project plans.

This morning it looked like this as I parked it in the shop for the winter. I couldn't hold out any longer not working on it.

I love zip cut discs and grinders. My favorite tool.

83 gs750 E swingarm (wanted a monoshock setup)
IMG_1595.jpg

A little fine tuning with some spacers but not a whole lot of work really. Had the wheel in there.

And here is how I left it for the day.

And if the subframe was still on this is how much the back end got lifted... :)

Now Im wanting your thoughts on how to mount the shock. Pics included...

straight angled without any linkages

I decided to try the shock mount using the linkage that was with the shock. I think it will be easiest if it works. Also leaves a nice wide open area under the tail to come. still have to make proper mounts for the dog bones as well. They are just bolted to the center stand brackets.

Will also be adding a plate on top of the top mount brackets and triangular bracing to the top cross bar on the frame. As well as welding both sides of all brackets.

Did some more welding and got it back on its own two feet instead of parked on blocks. Don't mind the seat. I just had to have a sit on it though. Bars will be going to clubmans or clip-ons. Haven't decided yet. Probably clubmans because I'm guessing they are not quite as low as clip-ons. I might be wrong though.

IMG_1655.jpg

The stance looks good. Kinda of a mix of all styles. Only thing that looks kinda sketchy to me is how close your shock linkage is to the ground. I'd be worried about bottoming out in corners or bumps.

If you go with clubmans or clip ons your gonna want some rearsets to make it feel right. Clubman's would be the easier swap, as you can get them pretty cheap and use to stock clamps.

Yeah rear sets are in the plan. As for the rear shock clearance in theory it should be ok. If not I'll just modify. But the way the linkage and dog
Bones are set up as the swing arm goes up and compresses the spring it lifts the bottom Mount up as well. If needed first I'll try shorter dog
Bones to gain a tad more clearance. Also it's right in the center under the back and really shouldn't be much lower than the exhaust would sit under there. Just my speculation. Time will tell.

Ok here's an action shot...ok more of a poser. :) going with clip-on bars and mount rear sets a bit further back. I think the tank may be too small. Might have to do some fabbing to it. :)

Or the other optional larger tank but not fond of the lines for this bikes style. maybe if it was more cafeish with the seat/subframe going straight back.

Honestly, I think one of the newer styled 1150 tanks (83ish) would look awesome. Give it a much more modern and less chopper turned street fighter look. Neither of the tanks you have are really doing it for me.

Really diggin the streetfighter look... nice!
I think this is the tank DrunkenChekhov is referring to. I had one but sold it to another member when I first joined. It was too narrow at the neck for my (our) frame but with your mad skills that shouldn't be a problem. Pics should give you an idea of it's shape to see if it is more along the lines you are looking for.

It's a shame too, would have been a good trade for a swingarm.. :(
