4 1/2 year quest may be ending tomorrow

Tractor is Matts project. Needs the hydraulic cylinder for the 3 point hitch rebuilt, the wiring is old and cracking so hes gonna rewire it at some point, and the tires need replaced on the front. I will probably be welding a patch inside the outer rim half at some point too. Fix the back right rim and a new tube and the rear tires are good to go.

As for the arm, going to PT through the VA. They say do that first and then if that doesnt make it better they will do surgery. So basically its jump through the PT hoops so they can get that copay money...just to see that it has failed and prolong the inevitable surgery. Then the surgery will , of course, have its own costs and copays added into the mix. Typical governmental pass the buck to get as much money as they can from folks.

Well the sun came out today so I thought I would snap a few in direct sunlight. The tank is just a tad darker than the side covers, but that was expected seeing all the accidental bumping into it when it was wet i did and had to go back and keep fixing crap!!

Overall for my first tricoat candy paint job i cant complain.

Wow! Impressive Chuck! And it is a beautiful day...goes perfect with your bike!

Lots of little things to tinker with yet. Probably be a week or so for the new intake manifolds and carb orings to get here. Put some Rotella in the crankcase today. Looking at some new grips as well. All in due time i guess.

Got the wires in the bucket hooked up and all the switches and lights function as they should. Ordered the fuse box front frame cover that was missing off Ebay. Replaced the gear oil in the pumpkin and polished the headlight trim ring. Took the Dremel and the wire wheel to the "cones / cups" at the end of the mufflers and repainted them with high temp paint. Hope it holds up because they look awesome right now!!! Just waiting on the carbs stuff and ready for the first restart!!!

New battery installed today. Checked tracking and its looking like sometime next week for parts to arrive from Japan. Says arrived and sorted in Tokyo so far.

Carbs and all the brackets are cleaned up. Just waiting on fuel tube orings and bowl gasket orings..then gang them up and get the bike running again.

Those carb came out beautiful! Nice work. Looking forward to seeing this project's finale.

Im anxious also. But with the Xmas break its looking like sometime next week for parts to start arriving. Got new grips and a stock throttle tube, the carb orings, and the front fuse box cover still awaiting arrival.

I will take a video when shes fired up again.

Little soft wire wheeling on the bench grinder, some 000 grade steel wool and hemostats, and the metal bristled tooth brushes along with some carb spray to clean the exteriors after they come out of the dip. Wire wheel as much as you can get shined up and detail with the steel wool and tooth brushes in the hard to get places.

Chuck,
What kind of wire wheel do you have on your bench grinder? I have one that states it is brass, but it eats aluminum!

Derek

Think its some sort of steel. I just look for the finest wires and some will actually say soft on the package. What do you mean by eats??? Actaully gouges it or makes some scratch marks??? I get a little marking but the rub down with steel wool takes care of all that.

I have thought about getting some soda and trying it on some old carb bodies in the blasting cabinet to see what that does.

My wheel gouges aluminum. Maybe the wires are too course. I will have to see if I can find something that is finer.

Fine ones will flex and still clean...guess thats the key. Finest and softest possible and try it on an old case cover or something. Guess Dremel wheels would too.

That's awesome! What a "Labor of Love" quality you have...your bike reflects what you put into it. Thanks Chuck!

My thought is why do all the other stuff and shove a set of crappy looking carbs in along a nice newly painted frame and engine. kinda would be an eyesore.

Well Xmas break is over and the last orings I needs showed up so I got the carbs on and fired it up. All is well and tomorrow i will need to do the carb sync and put the body work back on and call it done until i get the tank and side cover stickers. But its a runner and will be ridable tomorrow afternoon...just in time for the ice and winter storm warnings we have for tomorrow afternoon..NICE!!!

I will be posting a video of her later tomorrow afternoon as well.

Got the carbs sync done and checked the timing this morning. Put gas in the tank and the petcock went drip.....drip....drip. So took the face off and the round gasket with the 4 holes in it is bad. Its always that one last thing that prolongs that first ride!!!!!!!
