A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Greg, My .02... if you want the bike to look it's best, make 'em a smooth finish gloss black. if you want the factory look, it's orange peel 'textured' semi-gloss/matte black. mine will be an orange peel black.

Dale if it sounds like I'm waffling it's because I am.Can see it being good either way:-k

Who cares?
It is YOUR bike and unless it is going into a Museum to rot somewhere (or get ridden less than 1,000 miles a year) ...
who cares??? Really.

Asking opinions and getting info.Yes I understand it matters to nobody, not really asking anybody to care.Sharing Infomation is what we do here,or am I wrong?

It just seems to be that some people here believe that they just might have the Holy Grail of motorcycles sometimes.
We always get the purists in these polls that believe that it just can't be "correct" unless it was just unwrapped from the box.
If you put about $3,000 worth of effort into them, you just might be able to get $3,000 for one of them.
There have been some rare occasions that people get more but it is rare.
Does anyone ACTUALLY come up to any of us and tell us that some part is not correct? Ever?

Just sayin'

Greg, I went between gloss and textured for almost a rear so don't feel bad about waffling; that's one hard decision to make.

Greg I would go with gloss, somehow I don't think the matte covers will work with the gloss tank and tail, but that is just me.
You can see here what Dale is talking about with the semi gloss covers.

The original skunk was gloss anyhow.
Not according to this thread Stan.NA examples given here say a low gloss finish.Might be different in other markets?

Think I'm using the wrong term. The stock semi gloss would be the thing I would do.Must admit I was going to add satin to the poll question and forgot.:oEven the satin finish seems to matte.

Just a thought but I wonder if the reason Suzuki used a the matt/satin finish was to match the finish on the airbox.

So Dale, being the purist that I think you are, are you going to PAINT your covers, or leave them ORIGINAL? Does anyone make that finish, that is
Orange Peel "textured" semi-gloss/matte black?"

Here's some original frame covers in non-original condition, hard to believe the prices they want for these things nowadays.

Steve, I will be repainting the side covers with somewhere around a 70% gloss black SSU. the plan is to turn down the air pressure and see if that will give me the texture I'm looking for.

Though about mixxing up gloss and satin to get the "right" finish:rolleyes:Seems like more work than going gloss.Hmmmm........

I got a really nice black satin finish on my GS1100E luggage rack by using
a high gloss black in very high humidity. Not really what I wanted but I've kinda gotten used to it, since there's so many matte black parts on that bike.

Greg, the easiest way would be to BC~CC it in a gloss finish.

So I actually got the covers down and looked at them.
