Rudi - elbow grease!

Nothing else works quite like it. I put 60 hours into sanding of the sand cast finish on my wheels and polishing them up. They could still use some work but for a bike that gets ridden hard and put away wet they don't need to be perfect.

Ok, back to posting some pics. I lost my cable to the digital camera so I broke down and bought a memory card reader. So here are a few to chew on.

Note: I deleted 4 pics from the web site that are no longer applicable. I did this to make some room for the new pics.

First one is of the frame back from the powder coaters. The lighting isn't that great so its hard to make out some of the mods. You can clearly see the mount for the shock on the bottom of the frame. The top mount is tough to make out. It actually has a dual function of bracing the frame.

The next two pics are of the bike with the wheels and motor in. I just finished installing the cams so they are not covered. I covered them right after the pic to keep unwanted junk out. 8)

Notice the custom rear sets with the 2001 GSXR1100 foot controls. The chain is not adjusted so it's hanging a bit. The sprocket cover has been polished and reflects the camera light a bit odd.

There are some interesting points in this pic - the lower shock linkage is fairly easy to see and you can also see the slot in the upper shock mount that is for the electrics to mount correctly.

Looking good Steve. One of these days I need to pull my motor out and do things from the frame up. Maybe this winter I'll get serious about using all the parts I've got lined up waiting to install.

You got that right. I thought about bead blasting the cases, but decided instead to clean them by hand. I think when you factor in the cleaning to remove the media it's about a wash (no pun intended).

There really is no easy way to get things clean. It's the hardest part of any rebuild - but assembling spotless parts is sooo much fun. :)

As for getting parts that look perfect - that isn't my goal either. Once the bike is ridden the perfection is gone. I'm with you Billy - ride it.

Very impressive! I have always loved the uniqueness of a bike like yours. I`ve got a cbx kinda like it. That arm looks awesome on there. I bet you get the looks when you get it done. Keep us posted with pics !!

that's funny Swanny,

I was just thinking that today while I was stripping and pollishing my front mag, axle, spacer, fork bottom, and others.....I not going for perfect either, just nice and clean.

I am however going to powder coat the cases.

My fingers are raw already and I am still on the front end...lol

The cases should look great powder coated. That what I did to my frame and I'm very impressed with the paint quality and durability.

It's a lot of work polishing isn't it? I chickened out and sent the side covers off to have it done. They were sick looking and of the $150 they charged me all I can say is my fingers don't hurt. 8)

I believe it was for a 95 GSXR1100. It's the SS2R pipe. I had a lot of problems making it fit. The flange bolt pattern was too narrow (had some new flanges fabed - if anyone needs the data, I'll send it). The pipe also uses exhaust inserts and they are too short. I'm working on putting in the data to have some made on that. Again, I'll share this data if anyone needs it. I had to fit the pipe to be able to make sure the footpegs clear (they do). I've had parts on and off too many times now. I also had to fab an new rear exhaust mount. The mount is now powder coated and looking good.

All in all, more work than I wanted to do.

The results look great. As good as anything I've ever seen. Makes me see the need for a frame up build.

Thanks for the compliment Billy. The garage is pretty narrow and I can't take pictures with different angles. Maybe this weekend I can wheel her out and take a few.

We are getting close to purchasing a home in the mountains near Bailey and I will probably have to move everything within the next month. That should be a BIG pain. The nice part is - my wife said I could put a 5 stall in after we get settled. Hahahahaha - all mine - all mine. (She has a 2 stall attached already.)

We'll be moving too over the next month. I haven't had room to do much around here. That's why I have parts just sitting waiting to be used. It'll be nice to set up and be able to see what I've got and what to do next. I'll probably split the cases over the winter and have the 750 crank lightened and balanced by APE. If that gets done then I have to bite the bullet and get rocker arms hardened. The Cosworths are going to wake this thing up.

I guess once it's all done I'll be looking for a daily rider.

May I suggest a ZRX? 8) It's difficult when building anything (cars or bikes) to keep your eye on what you originally wanted to do. A simple tear down and rebuild can get out of hand easilly. I know from experience. I was going to rebuild an old VW aircooled engine and would up with a show quality car. Well, one year and 12k later that is.
