82 GS1100E Project/Cleanup

I haven't even really started on mine yet and you're more than halfway there, it's looking real good:)

I'm slowly getting there. I just got a bunch of parts in and am starting to put it back together.

How hard is it to replace the swing arm bearings? I have some new ones and will changing them out soon.

I got the swing arm bearings out and replaced them. It was easier than I thought it would be. The new ones went in very easly. I went ahead and painted the swing arm black for now. Will be updating to a newer one later so it's ok.

Bought a polishing wheel so trying to get some of the parts looking as good as possible. The rear fender had a piece missing and was cracked. Found one on Ebay from a 82 GS750 for 17.00 and drilled the three holes out for the light mounting bracket.

I was going to paint the engine but I want to get it running so I think for now I'll hold off on the engine painting.

I'm going to check the valves tomorrow and see about putting it back together.

Not really happy with the paint but I want to ride it so putting it together.

@Tech73 Have you looked closely at the brackets that hold the light, mine had two hairline cracks in each of them that needed to welded.

-Dave

I had to bend the right one back into place but didn't see any cracks.

Katman makes a kit to fit a Bandit swingarm. With his standard spacers, you need to relocate the rear brake M/C and stuff. If you take measurements and send them, he can make offset spacers. He did so for Posplyr...he didn't need to relocate stuff, but some minor mods were required on a small part or two. Look up Pos's thread...tons a great pics, and he covers EVERYTHING!! I just went with the stock arm and a Bandit 1200 rim/GS1100 sprocket carrier.

The motor is very clean inside

Seems I have the same 451/470 cam gears FC was fighting with.

It seems my timing might be off a little. If I put the notchs were they should be the mark doesn't line up with the T.

Seems if I hit the paint any it flakes off. I guess I'll never use that stuff again. I'll be looking of a 83 frame and have it powder coated sometime in the future.

What paint did you use?

Ok, I've been away for a little while and haven't kept this tread up but now I'm back to working on the bike.

I used Engine paint on the frame so that's what did it. I'm going to get a 83 frame and have it powder coated so no worries.

I've bought new tires; new wiring harrness; sprockets; and chain for the bike. Also bought 1993 gsxr 1100 forks and triple tree to put on the bike but that will be down the road.

I'm going to need a little help getting all the wiring put back on so I can get to riding this thing.

Its looking good. I did one like this but am only running one carb to make is easier to keep synced up and a little air compressor to give it a couple of more HP (-:. You are doing and excellent job!!!

Neat! Nice to see a similar idea - I'm an '83. Guess I should start searching older threads.

I've read through your tread and you do a very nice job. Never seen anyone clean old parts as good as you do.

I have a 67 LeMans I can send you...LOL.

Just to put everything I've done into one tread so I can keep up here is the 530 chain conversion.

17T front sprocket put on facing out

Yet looking down the chain from the rear sprocket it's way off.

I then turned the front sprocket around and it looks much better.

It still seems a little off so will check it before riding.

I bought it from www.Partshark.com it was a pretty penny but I hate cut wires and would rather just buy a new one.

Next up in SS brake lines. I think I've read where someone on here makes and sales them. I would rather buy from a member than a dealer.

My USD forks came in today. Haven't taken them out of the box yet.....will take pictures 1st then take them out and inspect them.

I see a new start switch on Ebay with the on off for the light. I know it's not stock for this year but thinking of getting it. What do you guys think?

gday mate, how much was the new loom, as i could not find a price, cheers.
