A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Spring?Mine had no spring.:eek:Hmmm......Where exactly is it?

You may have a different petcock?
I thought all pre-'82 were the same but maybe not. The spring is inbetween the rear housing plate and the diaphragm. The vacuum line from the carbs works against that spring to open the diaphragm thus letting the fuel through.
Have a pic?

So here's the pics of the petcock

Got a few of these around

So I took the spring out.

Thanks man!

Youre welcome. Since the test run on the rotors worked, i guess its time to send you that front break caliper as well.

Yes please:D BTW these cleaned up nicely. When I get the legs from Dale i should be set for some nice doubles.

Like i said earlier..I completely rebuilt it and all it needs is the dust boots and the three little orings that go on the carrier pin. The piston is absolutely spotless as far as rust or pitting..should give you many years of service.. will get it out probably this weekend.

Yes I know Chuck.Really is to kind.Speaking of kind my brother sent me this http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/van/mcy/2448259250.html For when it goes this is the text;
1978 gs750-not running -free (south vancouver)
free-you pick up only-does not run-parts bike?-includes fairing-call 604-760-8842
If it was here.......
He is looking for a bike over there and lurking here.Hope that 550 works out.
Cleaned off the frame swingarm and center stand. The usual places where dirty. Can you tell this was welded by people and not machines. The 85 750 frame has spatter everywhere, this one is very clean in comparison.May not be great looking welds but they are much cleaner.

So, you found the lil spring in the petcock? ;)
Yep:D
I know I got this old bike thing bad.Was at work and though "OK I got this winters project, what am I doing the winter after?" The answer may be in the papered 79 GS400 frame I have here.I have a ad in the local craigslist type site that everyone here uses looking for a 78 or 9 400.

Hows that postal workers strike going in your area?? Still waiting on word to send the caliper....

Haha you got it bad alright :D

And what pray tell will you be doing with the 450? Something fancy schmancy?

I hear twins make good scramblers...

Even if it's a seat with a later pattern cover I'm pretty happy

That was my question. If this is a 78 on it's not for sale.:dancing:BTW it's Greg.

LMAO...Yeah its been a long day here too...I will just not type anymore...I knew that too...LOL

In the OP to this thread I said this was going to be a resto-mod.As things are going along it seems more resto than mod.The only mods are going 4>1 and double discs instead of a single.Really what was Suzuki thinking,a 1000cc bike with a single?GS400's of that time had the same brakes:rolleyes:Got this seat becuase it didn't "line up right"on AZR's bike.Found the problem, one of the hinges that bolt to the seat was not striaght where it bolts to the seat(actually it studs but that sounds weird).A bit of vice work got it straight again.;)

Nice!

Just that is too short to post so I need to put more in...

I think yopu are gonna be more pleased with a resto, than a mod version..and it will be worth more in the end run as well. Like that guy in the for sale adds said..10,000 to 14,000 overseas!! HA HA
