That's about what my front MC looks like. Where did you source the rebuild kit and new reservoir from? Not sure if I wanna go that route or just pick up a whole new MC.

Reservoir

I went with rebuilding because when I replaced the one on the L the new one I got was a PITA to get fully sorted. I put on one with a remote reservoir that was finicky as hell. it came with a bad reservoir hose, pi$$ poor clamps, and the o ring that sealed the barb into the cup was fouled with a metal shaving and had to be replaced. All for $60. I should have rebuilt the old one too but you live and learn I guess. I sure did.

Interesting to see how the pods run on the 850.
They do look good though, I wonder if they make a set to fit bs26ss carbs.

Niko what is the outside diameter of your carb where the air filter would attach? If memory serves my bs32ss carbs have a diameter of 53mm.

I THINK 52mm but i am really not sure. I havent had the boots of to ever measure from the air box. Will be pulling it apart soon! Seems like a good alternative, apparently Ape have been making them for some time now.

Regarding the pods....when I washed my k&ns they turnred somewhat white then returned to the pinkish color after I oiled them. I wonder if the APEs are oiled. Looks like a lot of light passing thru them on the photo of the inside.

There seems to be a residue of oil on them so I'm thinking they are. When I install them ill probably give them a light mist to be safe.

Came home today to a nice big box with a Jardine 4:1 inside it. Exhaust is NOS and got an ok deal on it since it looks like it sat wrapped in plastic or something and got too warm (came from Texas) and the plastic melted or at least transferred some residue to the pipe. Anyways, I had already upjetted when I rebuilt the carbs a while back so I should be ok at least until this weekend when I get the pods and Dynojet installed. Plug chops are showing a nice medium tan so I'm in the ballpark for the exhaust by itself at least. I absolutely LOVE the sound of this pipe. It pops on decel, which is due in most part to stripped threads on #3 exhaust port (PO strikes yet again, that'll make 2 so far, have tap and die and heli coil so I'll fix that this weekend as well...) but otherwise makes a beautiful noise. It's far tamer than I honestly expected. Deep and throaty without being ridiculous. May just be placebo effect or the effect of losing the weight of the stock exhaust but bike feels snappier at all throttle openings in any gear. As ever blah blah blah pics. Lol.

In the pics you can also see I got the SS brake lines installed and the front calipers painted and rebuilt with new pistons and seals/boots. Rear brake system goes on the to do list for this weekend then I'll be down solely to cosmetic issues.

Getting some progress made this weekend. So far the pods are installed and the Dynojet is in. All is good on that front. Will be tuning over the coming days. As a throw back to my side by side with the K&N I did find the difference in the shape of the mounting boot mandated that I really pay attention to where the clamp was on the boot otherwise the pod would walk itself off the carb when tightened down. Once I figured it out all went without further issue. Also have the majority of the body painted at this point. All that's left is the tank and eventually the fork lowers, though the lowers may wait til winter unless I get a spare pair I can rebuild in the meantime. The last, and most exciting (for me at least) thing I have done is I ripped the cover off the seat and reshaped it to what I wanted it to be. I removed the duck's a$$ on the back of the seat, smoothed the hump in the center, and scalloped the side edges of the seat where my inner thighs ride to try and improve the seat just a little (not much was needed in the first place given this is the most comfortable seat I have ever ridden). Going to grab some material and do a temp seat cover until I can find a reputable upholsterer locally to set me up. There's a guy lives down the road so I'll be hitting him up to see if he has ever done any MC seats. As ever, pics.

Got the temporary seat cover stretched on and in place. Not 100% happy but it'll do for now. Not waterproof so I'll be stashing a garbage bag in the cowl for the questionable weather days.

I would have been but the previous owner already had it loose when I got it so I wasn't worried too much. I gotta go out later tonight and fix the threads on number 3 exhaust port.

So finally made a little more progress tonight with the rain and all. Ordered a set of 7mm Dyna suppression wires as well as a new set of NGK plugs and boots from Z1 earlier this week and got them installed. Re-used stock coils (for now). Whoever at Suzuki decided to epoxy the damn plug wires into the coils has earned a serious spot on my sh!t list for a while. What an utter PITA to do. Anyways, now that they are done and the new plugs are in the bike is running better than ever. Started a lot easier and seemed to lose some of the hesitation I have been tracking down. Of course, the fact the old wires were original and wrapped in 3 layers of electrical tape clearly indicated they were arcing at some point in the past and the PO chose to rig them rather than fix it right.

So you just dug out the epoxy? Any tips? I'm going to be doing that pretty soon myself, if the coils test out ok.

What I did personally was work a single coil at a time. I marked each pole on the coil for corresponding plug then I cut the wire flush as possible. Then I used a 90 degree grinder with roloc discsto grind the wire and epoxy flush with the face of the coil taking care to only go until I saw the free wire with no more epoxy around it. Then I used a long sharp pick to break the upper edge loose where the glue had seeped into the wire sheath and pry it just enough to get the wire with pliers and it then pulled right out. There is one wire on the coil that is pretty shallow and the other is DEEP in there. With the deeper one I took care to work gently to avoid having it rip down inside the coil where I couldn't get to it. The grinder method may not be popular with some folks on here but it was what I had on hand and it sure beat the hell out of picking at it forever. Total time, including pulling the tank and coils doing the wires then reassembly and re fire only took maybe 30 minutes.

So been awhile since I have done anything noteworthy to the bike besides ride it. However last night I got tired of looking at the last vestige of the terrible brown oem paint that was on the tank and finally decided to get the tank done up. Sanded entire tank with 80 grit on a DA sander then smoothed it out with 320 grit. End result was smooth as glass. Laid the flat black and called it a day. Will need another coat at some point, but I just might leave it until I get the bike painted this winter when I do the teardown for powdercoating the frame wheels and forks amongst other bits and bobs. Aesthetically the bike is done for now. Mechanically I still haven't gotten around to the rear brakes and wheel bearings but with life and family time to wrench, let alone ride, comes at a premium. As ever, pics.

Finally got a decent camera and took some fresh pics tonight. Pic quality improvement is off the charts.

Been awhile since my last post. I swapped out the superbike bars for a set of Daytona's I came across in my garage. Essentially the same look just a bit more rise and pull back. Made the change to try and adjust riding position a tad. The superbike bars will get repurposed to the 1100E once I get around to getting the pods and jet kit for it. Will try to get pics posted up tomorrow. Added the tank and side cover emblems as well.

Been awhile since I did anything much but ride this bike. Decided today to retorque the head and get the coil and horn relay mods done. I also removed the Jardine exhaust and resprayed it matte black after the weather had gotten to it a bit. While I was there I replaced all the exhaust bolts with hex head cap screws with stainless washers.

Fully disassembled the forks and replaced the seals today. Put in some 4" spacers and fresh 15W fork oil. Initial test ride felt awesome. No air in the forks.
