    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Carb Boots Replace Question

Alright, while my carbs are off I decided to replace the orings that are shown in this manual.

Can I get away with not replacing the boots? Mine do not look in disrepair. I can take a picture if needed.

I only ask because on your greeting I saw this:

1. Intake O-rings (install NEW OEM or Viton only - common nitrile O-rings will quickly deteriorate from heat)
2. Intake Boots (install NEW -- these cannot be repaired)

The boots going to the air filter don't look the best. Is their a thread that explains why air leaking on the air intake makes a difference? In my head I'm not getting it.

I'm not finding these boots too cheap anywhere. I don't mine paying around 60 for all 8. But 60 for 4 is a little high for me.
 
If you intake boots are soft and pliable and not separating from the inner metal they might be reusable. Same goes for the air box boots, they need to be soft and pliable so they can be clamped to the carbs and have a good seal and connect to the air box with a good seal. Air leaks will cause your bike to run lean, run irratically, ect... It can show up as symptoms of both lean and rich. A search for "air leak" will give you all the reading you need. Good job on starting the basic but essential servicing.
 
I remember reading you could replace these for $28... Where was that from?
 
About $24 to $28.00 ea. If yours are in question or bad, it is worth the $100.00+ to replace them. Nothing will work right if they are leaking. Because of the changing heat involved, the symptoms are not consistent. It is better to spend the money than chase your tail trying to fix an illusive problem that will most likely cost you more in the long run. Remember, they are as old as the bike.
