    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Charging system regulator ect.

My question is can i throw out the stock regulator and rectifier thing and use one from an 1985 yamaha three wheeler?? The three wheeler had no battery it was kick start, but yet the motor was able to run the coil and lights with no battery when it was running. If our bikes werent electric start could they do the same? One time my bike wouldnt rev up as if it had a rev limiter ...i looked and i forgot to connect the + back on the battery, seemed like the charging wire couldnt even supply the coils alone after a certain R.P.M.. .How come they have such poor charging systems? Im hoping if i use the parts from the three wheeler the gs will charge better. What do you think about this?
 
I got a honda regulator for 7 dollars shipped on ebay. Don't waste your time with that, Honda regulators are cheap and easy to find and there is enough info on this forum to replace it easy enough.
 
So what you saying is that the reason for it is the regulator? The three wheeler had a regulator on it also....whats the difference?
 
the yamaha three wheeler has a magneto ignition and lighting coils for powering the light, it will not work.
the GS has battery powered ignition and battery powered lighting, totaly differant system.

on some ATV's they have a lighting coil that will make enough power to power the light fully at low RPM (often they don't rectify the power and just used the AC output of the lighting coil) they have a small simple regulator that shunts excess power to ground as the rpm comes up, it wont charge a battery as it was not designed to.
