A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Cylinders 2-3 arent firing follow up 77 gs750

Ok static is now good but still no combustion on 2-3.(I made sure points were flat with a points file and then reset the gap again to get the static set for anyone that has an issue with static timing)

I do have sparking in the dim light from the points. Swapped plugs around and made sure they weren't too wet with fuel. 2-3 cylinder/exhaust are still not getting hot.

FYI- still getting around to double checking with a timing light but was guessing it should run on the static set up.

Sparking at the points indicates the condensor is bad.

And your right it should run fine on static timing.

even with the bad condensor it should fire? It is sparking a lot but the darn plugs fire fine

Dyna S then start again?

Thanks
Harold

No - the spark plug is triggered when the points open and break the circuit. If the the current jumps the points gap and sparks, the circuit is maintained at the points and no spark at the plugs

I'm no fan of points - IMHO they're an ancient technology designed to deteriorate from the moment you get them set.

But, you might want to pick up a condensor and confirm that the bike works. Or switch the condensor wires at the points ,if possible

I am a big fan of the Dyna S, having had one for 25 years. You can just order one if you're confident that you've solved the problem. Particularly after you price out new points and condensors.

Not confident that I've solved it but, confident that eventually I'll need a Dyna S and the old points/cond. set up is $25 bucks I'd waste if that fixes it since I would then immediately upgrade to Dyna S to avoid this again! So I thought an upgrade was in order. The old stuff was way out of whack and I had to use my old points file heavily to get the points flat. They were both sparking. I'll swap condensors and try that. If it maintains the circuit till the flash is gone then It may still be slightly out of time from that? I'd like to upgrade and just cross my fingers I guess.

Dyna S was a breeze to install and I have it dynamically timed right on the money. Dyna and Z1 enterprises rock!

2&3 are still not firing. I'm thinking valve adjustment next? Guess that could be so far out they wouldnt fire. Also noticed the tach wasnt moving with the RPMs accurately?

Hate to ask the obvious but the plugs are clean right? Cause they would have fouled up pretty bad with all this testing and no spark.

Yes swapped from the firing 1-4 cylinders every test on the last two. 1-4 are always firing.
