    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message.   • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hey guys, just wanted to check, the nut that holds on the alternator rotor is it a right hand or left hand thread please before I apply an impact driver
 
normal threads.
pre 80 can use a bolt to push it off and 80- and up should have a nut and take a special puller?
 
Many thanks Blowerbike, so its the normal anti clockwise to rmove the alternator nut. Have got the rotor puller coming in the post
 
Struggling to loosen the rotor nut with a impact driver is it okay to use some heat on the nut guys
 
use a very long bar on the end of a socket to give extra leverage or put a spanner on it and give it a good whack with a hammer to crack the bolt loose
 
No joy, really need your help guys to get this starter clutch sorted. Falling at the first hurdle unfortunately cannot loosen the alternator retaining nut it is mega tight. Have tried an impact driver and shocking it by hammering a ring spanner. What other ways can I try?
 
You should try some penetrating oil and a bit of heat, then trying to break it loose. Take your time
 
Air impact gun and a socket. Zing! and it's off. Then use the proper puller to remove the flywheel.

Hi gs79. There is a suzuki service tool to hold the rotor, thats what the blind holes are for on the outside of the rotor. Penetrating oil will do nothing and excess heat will damage the magnets. If you put your clutch back together temporarily, old parts will do. Then put the bike in gear, 2nd should do and get someone to help by standing on the rear brake while you loosen the rotor bolt/nut. use a long socket breaker bar and a good fitting socket. When you refit it tighten it to the correct torque using the same method, if it comes loose your starter clutch will freewheel and the rotor will chew up the end of the crank. Where in UK are you.

Second gear might work, it's best to use the highest-numbered gear possible for best mechanical advantage.

If it's at all possible, load the bike onto a trailer and take it to a local 'engineer' (mechanic), front him a few Quid, and let him do the work for you.

Or put the bike in gear and apply the rear brake to keep the crank from turning as was suggested.
 
beg borrow or buy an impact.
every time i tried the "in gear/brake on" thing the suspension would just wind up.
crank needs to be solid or have the shock of an impact.
 
Thank you for all your help guys, I will get this last day shift out the way today and have a go at the rotor nut and rotor pulling tomorrow. Firstly using the in gear rear/brake method (didn,t fancy using heat). I really appreciate the help

When you are loosening the bolt you could hit the sosket bar square on to the crank and it will shock it loose. use a hide or copper faced mallet. good luck.
 
hopefully the previous owner has not forced the nut back on with damaged threads,or cross threaded it while fitting.
usually a good sharp whack with a heavy hammer on a spanner is enough to crack it loose
 
Argh well, the in fifth gear with the rear brake on, with large rachet handle didn't loosen the rotor bolt, bit of a loss of what to try next

rent (hire?) an electrical impact wrench and appropriate socket.(probably how it was last installed, so all the special cornflakes for breakfast is not going to help!) It'll pop right off while someone's on the brake pedal.
