If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Nice save there. Like others i was a bit "wtf" when i saw this, but i have to agree, it's growing on me. The best move you did was modifying it so it was designed for someone with normal arms and not for a gorilla.

Wow...great driving to avoid the spill. Sorry about the jacket though

I attribute any handling skills I may have to racing mountain bikes... but I'm thinking mostly it was luck haha.

I knew most people on this board would not care for this style bike, but it's what I'm into. I am not and never will be the restoration type of guy, and I've had a sport bike before so I don't really want a cafe bike either. I still have a lot I'm going to change on this bike, but it's nice to have a bike to ride right now. I will be building a new frame soon from the extra frame I have.... so stay tuned for more craziness! :D

Mate that's an adventurous ride home for sure! Glad you survived :D

The only thing like that that happened to me was on my first bike which was a 2006 Honda Rebel 250. I attempted to flick through a break in a traffic island to take a short cut onto the freeway but misjudged and hit the island with the front wheel. I was doing about 60kph and it actually launched me (thankfully it was angled gutter) and I landed in the next lane over just in time to swerve and avoid the guard rail on the other side.

I still have no idea how I landed that and got home safely, I so expected to be road kill under two lanes of traffic... I'm sure the cagers got some entertainment though!

And as to your future craziness, bring it on! :D

Went for a little ride after I hooked up my front brake (finally) and some new comfy grips:

Mate she's lookin' good, and that's some nice scenic riding you got goin' on there too!

Pete, that's only 3 miles from our new house! I rode about 60 miles sunday afternoon on the bike and all felt good. I'm going to go down a size on the mains because when you go WOT it bogs a little at the top of the rpm's range... and if you go WOT too often it'll start fouling to plugs out...

Having trouble with this embedding thing...

Good stuff. Where I am is about half way between the city where I work and my favourite biking roads. Unfortunately I haven't had a bike on the road yet since we moved here...

Being only 3 miles from rides like that should make it easy to get out for a quick spin for you too, nice :)

Definitely sounds like you need to go down one on the mains too! I'm looking forward to needing to do that sort of tuning...

It is nice... when my bike runs!

Crap man, what I thought was plugs fouling is really a bad coil or the ignitor is going out again... I'm getting intermittent spark on the left cylinder. Gonna pick up some fresh plugs today and drop by the old house and get the extra coils. Hopefully its the 31 year old coil going out and I can just swap out the newer coils and it'll be fine... Jets are on the way either way, so maybe I can squeeze an extra 1/3 hp out of it haha

Dude this is a sweet looking little chop. I like it a lot. Can we get a picture of the other side of the tank? I'm intrigued by the graphic on it

Thanks!

This is actually the only one I have... and it's before I wetsanded and cleared the tank:

Man I hope it's those coils!

Otherwise you may be helping test my HEI module setup...

I was thinking the same thing Pete... if it ends up being another bad ignitor then I'm going to do the HEI setup for sure...

Changed the plugs and swapped out the coils and I got plenty of spark. Fired right up and felt stronger than ever. Im going to ride it to work in the morning so I'll let you know how that goes for me

On the one hand... bugger... noone else to test the HEI modules yet :p

On the other hand, good stuff! Sounds promising :D

Pete, I will probably start gathering stuff to build the HEI ignition system that you have already pretty soon. And I will probably seek out some higher output coils as well because I feel like there is still more power to be had from these engines...

But until then I'm going to ride the crap out of it. haha

Mate if you're keen go for it! I should be almost exactly a month away from sending it off to Tranzac for the exhaust, which means I can get back to testing soon after it comes back.

One thing I never did was see how the spark was originally, but I do know just cranking it with HEI modules produces a nice big fat blue spark...

Riding the crap out of it sounds like a damn fine idea to me :D

Pete, what was the actual need for the resistors and diodes in the circuit? I'm guessing to adjust the input signal to something the HEI can handle better?

I'm planning to donate the other motor and the current frame to a friend for his first bike project once I build my new frame up, and we may both incorporate the HEI setup in our bikes since I haven't even seen any gs450 ignitors on eBay recently...

The HEI module fires the spark on a negative going input signal, and it needs to go from somewhere around 1.65v to 1.35v (can't remember the exact numbers right now) to make this happen.

The diode sets the minimum voltage for the signal generator to about 0.6v or thereabouts, and the transistors and resistors are there to invert the signal and amplify it.

The stock ignitor fires the spark on the positive going signal which is why it needs to be inverted, and the signal generator only puts out about 80mV which is why it needs to be amplified.

Well that makes sense. I rode 130 miles yesterday with my dad on his ironhead. Had a little hiccup when we started with some loose connections or something but it ran fine all day afterwards.
