    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

GS750 1978 Cafe 'Project Doris'

Few updates from yesterday.

1) Engine mounts and bolts etc back from platers
2) Installed frame over engine
3) Oil pressure gauge tapped into existing engine bolt

Next jobs include mounting the rear sets, front end and potentially rolling chassis. Big jobs include the brakes, wheels and loom... it's nice to see things progressing though, really enjoying the project now :lol:

What an awesome bike. I can see there is quite a few hours put down into this project. Could you tell me about the Vonzeti seat if you have used 16,5 or 20,5 cm in front? I?ve just started my GS500E 1980 cafe project, and this seat seems to fit perfect :cool:
 
Good stuff, man. Damn good stuff.

I just purchased a '78 GS750 of my own for $275. Tankless, but otherwise great condition. Couldn't pass up a steal like that.

I've been try to decide where to go with it, and have been leaning towards a cafe look. Was happy to find your thread.

Will definitely be keeping up with this one!

Thanks for the feedback mate, I requested that mine measure approx 7" at the front, and 9" at the widest point. They tailored a seat unit to meet my exact requirements, I was VERY impressed with the quality of their products. Highly recommend! :cool:

Thanks for the feedback pal, you can't beat these bikes for value and potential, the cafe look adds classic appeal for me.... I'm really looking forward to getting my wheels etc fitted :lol:

Salty monk's brake adapters are a great addition if you want to keep the stock look of the front end, look them up on the forum here.


Digging the project mate, can't wait to see the finished product.
 
Looking really nice! Love the chrome rear sprocket! Did it come like that or was it chromed?

Not updated in a while so here are a few recent pics. As you can see we've done some work at the front end, fitting the head lamp and bars. The clocks have brackets made, I've just ordered some new rubber grommets and cables before fitting.

The next big job was the wiring loom, for this we stripped back the original and made provisions for the relocated electronics, re-wrapped with loom tape and replaced most of the ageing connectors. I bought some new battery/starter lead and have paid extra attention to good grounding points! The Dyno 3ohm coils sit nicely on the custom made brackets and the seperate Dyno loom makes installation nice and neat.

There is probably another 1-2 days work on the electrics before fitting the carbs / fuel system and potentially turning her over... although there are a few niggling issues to sort in the mean time.

QUESTION: Has anyone fitted similar clip on bars?? These are the ones sold by Niche Motorcycles on eBay and look great. Only problem is the mounting brackets which come in contact with the tank on full lock. Looks like I'm going to have to rectify the situation by limiting the steering lock...???

WoW, you guys are doing a phenomenal job, keep it up, update us when possible, oh and get a video when finished lol dying to hear it!
