Hardtail 550t

The easiest way I think would be to get another swingarm since yours is already chopped. That way you could use the geometry that Suzuki already set in place. Without a dedicated frame jig the odds of it being straight and are not good.

If you have another use it. Tak your hardtail tubing in place and then cut the swingarm out. Some sort of jig to keep things level and from moving would be great. Just remember when you weld things are going to move.

Here it is all welded up. Still got a lot of work left but its getting there.

More pics I ordered a t500 throttle today. And got my clipon handle bars in the mail.

Dude, I have taken alot of grief myself on here for choppin up the beloved GS, but I cannot, in good conscience, let the design of your hardtail, go without a bit of friendly advice: Do not attempt to use that bike w/ the frame in its current state. It will fail(quickly) and could cause much bodily harm in the process. I'm no design engineer but that is just not safe. Go over to The Chopper Underground and search hardtail, you'll get hundreds of threads to research and learn from. Some of the members over there have been building frames for years and have solid advice and design ideas to share. Not tryin to bust yur chops, just don't want to see anybody get hurt. Best of luck...

I know you'all may think its wrong but the welder that did the bike has been doing this since he was 14 so no offense to anyone but I trust him over y'all. He has been doing this for over 30 year's.. And it is not completely done yet I wasnt going to ride it in this condition. I would be out of my mind to ride it right now.

Did your buddy have schooling in chassis fabrication or just welding? It definately wasn't chassis fab! Your friend is going to get you hurt. For someone that has been doing that, what ever it is since they were 14. They really shouldn't do that at all. No matter how good the welds are it is not going to keep the tubing from failing! What is the wall thickness of the tubing? Sorry for the harsh words but man don't ride that thing!

I got a seccond opinion from my friends dad he's going to fix it and make it road worthy sorry I didn mean to doubt anyone I thought I could trust my welder he did use some thick steel pipes though.

Have you seen the axle plates that are sold to replace your stock ones? I think they look much better than the stock ones. If you have someone knowledgeable they may be able to cut a pair out for you and weld them right in where your lower and upper tubing are supposed to meet at the rear axle.
Just wondering, have you went to www.thechopperunderground.com yet?
TONS of info on what you're project needs!!!
Their moto is "Chop what you got"

Yup. Come on over. Im in the middle of a swing arm chop of a 80 750 myself. Lots of friendly guys with decades of chopping under their belts.

I picked up like $400 in parts yesterday. I was just playing around with it untill we take it up to my friends dads house to get it done.

Hey bud what kinda tubing did he use?Hopefully not just black iron pipe.Black pipe cannot handle the stress that a hardtail endures. Please use dom tubing.Im also a member at CU.U will get answers to all the questions you may have.

I have to agree with a few others here. Tear that rear end off and start over. Your wheel mounts are too far back from the vee of the rear of the frame. Your hardtail weld on isn't gusseted properly. the lower part of the hard tail needs to be welded to the bottom of the frame under the motor. You need to cut further up the frame right behind the motor. Do away with the bracing there and go from that point. Build a new veritical brace to tie back bone , hardtail and lower frame together properly. Note where we started with the new part of the frame. have pic posted in show you custom bike thread

Fially made it up to my friends bike shop in north Carolina. He didn't like the rear end so we started all over again this time we are starting at the backbone and under the engine. We cut all of the metal yesterday and tacked it in place I will post some pics soon.

Here is the final of the bike still have a fuew things to finish up. I would have posted progress pics but I dont know how to post full size pictures on this site. We finished today but after finishing wiring and trying to start the bike we realized that the band new ignition from the store didnt work. We did get the bike started and it souns awsome. I will post more pics of how we did the frame if anyone wants to see them. I can also show the wiring if anyone wants. We ended up just cutting the stock harness out of the bike and starting new. WOW that was quite a project from parts in a box to a complete bike in 4days. We did all of the work at my friends shop in North Carolina Combat Cycles.
