A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

It's the simple things like mixture screws...

So I'm learning...slow albeit, but gaining some confidence and knowledge little by little.

I was going to try tuning with the highest idle method today but once I got the tank off and lightly seated all the screws (they were all over the place, don't think any were the same), and then turned them all 2.5 turns out I decided to take it for a test run to try and feel the difference....WOW!

She now pulls harder through ALL gears in ALL rpm ranges than ever, AND it feels so SMOOTH! Feels so much faster when it's smooth.

Took a little adjusting and playing with the throttle stop screw afterwards to get the right idle level, but I'm loving it!

Should I still give the "highest idle" a try?

Absolutely you should.

Perfect is so very much better than pretty good.

Point taken! Hopefully I can get to that next week...

That and I need to replace the fouled up (rich) plugs so I can do a plug chop test and see how she's doing.

No use the plugs that are in it, new plugs are hard to read, there is no deposits to turn color.

True, but if he's glazed the plugs by running it rich for an extended amount of time, they're likely to never give him a good read..

I put new plugs in when I started riding it in March. But to be fair, I've only ridden around 200-400 miles.

Okay, so after a 200 mile day run I finally had some time to check my plugs to see how they look.

1 and 4 seemed maybe a tad rich (darker gray) and 2 and 3 looked lean (some whitish coloring on the hook part on top).

The next step to perfect this is to do a colourtune and highest idle method, or just one of them?
