If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

I did not get to even look at it yesterday but, I did get to take one of the other GSes out for an evening ride. ;) It is always best to have a good running bike around to keep you motivated when you dive into a POS.

Today, I got a couple of hours to look at it again and discovered another PO problem.

Armed with a good assortment of left-handed drill bits, penetrating oil and patience, I managed to extract the frame bolt and re-tap it.

And somehow bbjumper must be clairvoyant. And so it starts...

A short while later...

That's it for today and probably until Saturday.

I had a couple of hours to tinker with it today so more destruction...

And had enough time to take the cam cover off to take a peek inside.

Looking good so far. You've got to love some of the things that a PO will do or do WRONG! Amazing how, just giving it a bath, increased the value of that boy by about $500.;);)

I've got to thank you for those pictures with the cam cover off. I've finally got a slight understanding of how "each lobe pushes on a pivoted fork that operates two valves."

PS Keeping your speedometer? :xsmilie_mrgreen:

The gauge housing is cracked to heck. The gauges are fine though.
Pulled the engine and took the frame and swinger down to a self service car wash.
Finished the first coat of paint on the frame a few minutes ago. Time to get to work...

Does anyone recognize this stator? Is it one of those Electro-sport units?

Looks like Electroport; also looks like it not have a chance to burn up either. Check the wires leading out to make sure the insulation is intact.

Posplayr, do they burn up often? How about if I use one of those Polaris regulators?

A little more investigation today and a few questions for the GSR 4-valve hot-rodding experts.

I am pretty sure that I will be using this complete clutch assembly as someone obviously has done some work with it...

Shifter paws look thicker than any other GS engine that I have been into, about 1/8" thick. Is that normal with these '83 engines?

I will be using these hi-pressure gears for the oil pump.

Now for the questions for the experts. Of these three sets of cams, which is which? (Witches are for later this month for those that are spelling impaired BTW)
The first pair (HP 167) is what was found in this engine, the other two pairs (212 and Web 223) are some that I have gathered over the years.
Hopefully, someone can tell me who made which and what the specs are.
That would save me a bunch of time and make my decision as to which I will be using MUCH easier. Thanks in advance.

You will want the 223 (0.340 lift cams), nice sound and very streetable(what I have). You could even go to the 0.348's for the street and much more power up top.

The 212 is 0.370(Edited) lift, much more for a race machine.....
The 167 is basically a stock 1150 grind (0.310)

go here and select your vehicle, the various grinds will come up.

If those two sets of cams are new, they are worth close to $300 per pair.....

That welded basket you can figure $200-$300 depending on how bad it is grooved.

I figured that the last two were probably Web Cams but was not sure about the 167 grind. Thanks!
I will probably just throw the 167 cams into one of my stock 1100's then. ;)

the 212 webs are .370 lift and are quite fun with a few other things done :D
great looking basket but check if you have 10 fibers and 9 steels(not counting the steel on the inner hub)
if so those are 83 only and really f up your basket because of the steel backing instead of aluminum.
i see a full set barnett gold springs also...lose 3 and add 3 stockers.

Blowerbike, yes, the other things have already been done to the head that I will be using and then some. ;)
So, I need to see if I have enough good used stock fibers from my other two engines to use instead, right?

Cylinder ready for paint.

yeah any fiber but 83 will do if they are still pliable/not chard-hard ect..
80-82 1100
84-86 1150
1000/1100 shafties..yes same clutch side as a 1100 16v. :D

I ordered the 1150 clutch fibers from maccycles.com as they are aluminum with premium friction material.
I also ordered the 80mm bore base gasket and 77mm bore cylinder head gasket from Cometic.
This evening, I started on the tedious task of resurfacing these rough rotors that I will be using.

This rear one, has deep grooves and will probably end up under size by the time that I am done.

Before.

Not quite finished yet.

After soaking the calipers over night in lacquer thinner, I scrubbed them with a parts washing brush today and redunked them. They are still holding on to some of the factory paint under the PO's paint.
Worked on the rear rotor some more and it will be just a hair under the 6mm turn to limit. It should be fine as little as I use the brakes on my bikes. ;)

1150 cylinder was on the bike?

Chef... that was going to be my next question... I even went back to the start just in case I did not notice the EFE motor installed.
