DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

OK, now for the run-down

Sure man. Really as long as they arent getting beaten and bent out of shape, (pretty hard to do) and the jets arent near anything that could mung them up, and you keep the diaphrams from getting punctured, they're pretty hard to damage. Just once you clean em, bags would be good to keep em clean

I wash thinking of soaking everything for 24 hours or so and then putting the small pieces in ziplocks and seperate the carbs and wrap them in plastic as well.

yeah i think the Berrymans says to soak for 30 mins or something like that, i took it from a good friend (Steve) to soak em for 30 hours. Worked like a charm :)

Yeah steve on here told me to soak it for 30 hours so I think I will try it. I know they can really use the soak.

I just finished reading the "how-to" on the main page for cleaning the carbs. Last time I cleaned them I missed a lot of stuff. I am glad I have that and you guys as a guide. My manual show half of the stuff the walk through on here shows. it is amazing!

In the how to clean carbs or carb cleaning 101 overview the person cleaning the carbs used a basket thing with a gallon can of some sort of carb cleaner. He dipped the basket (that came with the cleaner) into the paint can looking container for cleaning. My questions are. What is this cleaner called? Can one still get it? And Where could I get it?

Thanks in advance,

Cory

Auto parts stores typically sell gallon cans of carb "dip". You should also pick up a can or two of spray carb cleaner. Dip the carbs, length of time depends on how dirty the carbs are to begin with - over night is typically plenty, and wash off with water. Use the spray cleaner to confirm the various passages are fully open - also works well to wash off the water if you don't have compressed air at your disposal.

When cleaning carbs I don't worry too much which parts came from which carb; the only truly critical parts to keep together are the float needle and seat.

Nessism,
thanks for the advice on cleaning. I have a couple cans of carb cleaner and a can of brake cleaner as well. I hear the brake cleaner is better for some parts because it dries rather than runs or sits after spraying. I have a compressor, but I will still try the water and can approach you are speaking of. Thanks again for the hints.

catbed,
I will go to Autozone today and get the dip. Thanks for the suggestions. By the way I like the picture of the bike. Nice bike!

I came home this AM after I got off of work and was able to get all but one screw loose on the last rail holding my carbs together. This last screw is pretty well buggered up so I will have to be creative getting it out. I read the post in the garage about getting out stuck screws. I may need to get an impact driver while I am out and about today.

Any other suggestions out there on how to get a stuck, buggered up screw out?

It is currently soaking in PB Blaster right now and will be until I get it out. Any suggestions will help greatly.

Apply some heat to the area the screw goes into - sounds like that would be the carb. Use and hand torch and warm it up. Don't go crazy and melt it

I bought a impact driver to get that last screw out, but even that wouldn't get it out. So I used vise-grips and luckily got it out. (wipes sweat off his brow). My heat gun would have been the next step. While I was out in the garage working on my bike I got the toolbox straightened out as well. It was a very productive day.

Has anyone taken their impact driver apart and shortened the spring to make it work better?

All the carbs are pulled apart and I have one soaking in the Berrymans. I want to post pictures on here, but I don't know how.

Do I need to be a different type of member to post pics?

To post photos first upload to a free photo hosting service like Photobucket or Flicker. After that you want to post a direct URL link to the photo cut and pasted into your post here. It's very easy to post the photos here once you have them uploaded there.

Good luck.

good to hear about your carbs!

photobucket is easier than flickr because photobucket gives you a link to copy but in flickr you have to copy the image source link.

I have my pictures uploaded at fileden. I was just wondering which code to use to post them. On my other forums it is the bracket img bracket, the url then the bracket /img bracket. I tried that here, but it didn't work. I will try other URL's though.

Thanks for the advice.

I am not sure of the tire brand. I brought the bike with them on. What is the best way to tell what they are? I am sure somewhere there is a name and a size but I am having trouble finding it.

Thanks for the compliments. The Tupperware is containers our deli meat comes in. I have been saving them for quite a while and finally found a good use for them!

psyguy,
I think she will like it better once it is running. But we will get it there soon. I have learned about this bike by leaps and bounds since joining this forum a week ago.

i think i'm just jealous, my missus won't let me touch her car other for an oil change...

Her car is off limits, but I can do whatever I would like with the bike. As long as it helps it run.
