I want to paint my 80 gs 1000l myself.I will have to buy a gun,paint,etc.Is there any kind of gun like a small touch up one that will work?I am thinking red.Is there a kind of paint that is more likely to be user friendly for a pure beginner like myself?I appreciate input.I have a book that tells lots of stuff about painting,but dont understand fully about pearls,urethanes,enamels,acrylics in regard to which is easiest.Ron B

I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.
Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Returning Visitors
If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.
If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

ron: yesterday i was driving to federal express to deliver a package, on the way i noticed the front door was open at bells body shop (40 plus years in business). i stopped in and asked "how much for a paint job on a gas tank and front fender? she took me to the shop introduced my to her husband , i told him what i was needing, he said 250 to 350 thats whit pin-stripes. i was expecting closer to 500. why dont you check around. this guy buys his paint from the manufacturer and makes his own pinstripe decals. also said their motorcycle database was really big. take care and good luck,,,,,ikazuki
Thanks guys.That is all the input I needed.I appreciate it.Paint threads are like oil threads,they can go on forever.I decided if i paint the bike myself,i would probably never use the equiment again unless i had more bikes and i dont.Probably a shop could do it cheaper than i could do it myself.Bikes have so little surface area to paint so they should be cheaper than a car.I have read here so many times how "they want 1500 dollars" to paint my bike,etc.I only paid 1500 for the whole bike.500 though would be reasonable.

I've gotta say, I rattle-canned mine and then did the gas test...
the clear-coat clouded way too much for the effort i put into it. i then bought some automotive paint w/ hardener and had a friend shoot it for a reasonable fee. The results were great and I don't have issues with spilled gas.
$45 for paint-clear-hardener, its a 3 part mix.
$50 bucks labor
The guy that painted it wasn't even that good with a gun but he really buffed the finish up after he was done.
I'd say it was worth it.
