needs suzuki re painted on the side cover, is all i can see , did you change the swing arm axle covers?
nice bike though

The ES never had it on the side panels. The E had GS700E on the panels, the ES had the model designation on the fairing. Joe's graphics are correct. The axle covers are correct too, lighting in the building seems to be making them appear gold colored.

That is the stock look, there is no side decal on the es, its on the fairing. The axle cover is polished out but it is stock. Kind of sticks out with P/C black swinger...

You're talking about the ignition cover on the end of the crank I suppose. I think it's just the angle of the photo that causes it to look faded.

After removing the clip on the left fork, the seat would not budge, it was totally rusted shut. My good friend Mr Eric (Tejasmud ) up in McKinney Texas put it on a lathe and bored it out..ordred new seats with the fork parts I was able to salvage the clips. Thanks Eric! :clap:

I missed this little problem when you first posted about it. It's pretty common. When my bike was only a few years old I installed Progressives and found the same thing. I drilled a hole in the center large enough to fit a jigsaw blade through. Then I cut four slots just shy of the tube walls. After that a few whacks with a hammer and the pieces fell in. I was replacing bushings and seals at the same time so dis-assembly was in order. A good flushing with kerosene and all was well.

Just posting this for others that might run into this problem.

Pretty Sweet !!!! Now I want to hear it run.....:clap: I'm not looking foward to doing the fork seals... The tops are one big piece of rust. Maybe I will get lucky and the rust will break free, If not it looks loke I'll be drilling and cutting.

try a electric impact to loosen it up, find a socket,or allen or make one, the impact should break it loose

I REALY wish you would NOT give advice on bikes you have NO experience with anymore! If you HAD experience with one of these, you would KNOW the 700s have a cap that is held in with a simple SNAP RING instead of a large screw in NUT like most other Suzukis have. Thanks, Ray.

I might add those pain in the arse little snap rings are no longer available from Suzuki so it is some what of a delicate process to retain them for a re-build.

Joe's tube in the pics was real clean compared to the ones I had.

A rusted glob.

But yes, correct, the 700's have the worst Suzuki "cost saver" ever used into the tops of the forks. "snap ring", more like "wire clip ring," and yes once they are stuck, you are.........screwed...

Not sure on the 83' 750.... too tired to look it up....

But, anyway.


On a 700..turn/cut them out as/if needed. I could see it being a pain in the arse without machines to do the job...

Tip..

Once out, and replaced... Put some bearing grease in the tops to keep it from happening again.

i guess i should have said if your model has the Screw in type it is a good way to get them loose--- AND---

SEAT, SPRING---- if this part has a allen hole to turn the thing
a electric impact would help break loose any light rust, it DOES NOT HAVE TO BE A THREADED CAP----the way i meant-
i say electric (because a high power air impact might strip the area for the tool ) if your not careful
