    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

right hand and left hand coils

I never did find out why if I unplug the right coil connector and plug it in where the left coil is connected, then plug the left into where the right was I get no spark anywhere. The connectors are under the front of the tank. And the connectors will only plug in one way. I can only guess they are wired cylinder specific, the wires to run 1 & 4 will not work on 2 & 3. My problem was 2 & 3 would stop firing and then start again. It was suggested that I swap the coils to see if the problem would move to 1 & 4. But it would not start at all. So I pulled the spark plugs and found I had no spark anywhere.I switched the wire plugs from the coils to the wiring loom back and it started, running on all four. I,m just going to clean all electrical wire plugs and make sure they are tight. I,m not riding today anyway this awful Ca. weather, the temp has dipped down in the 40's And sprinkling rain off and on. ...:eek: I'm not talking about spark plug leads from the coil to the plugs.
 
How did you switch the plugs to the coils? Cut them off and crimp the wires?
 
I don't know......but I have come across coils used in other applications, (magnetically actuated hydraulic valves), that are polarity sensitive. They use a diode to stop the voltage spike that occurs upon field collapse from traveling up the low voltage side and the damaging the electronics that control them.

My coils

My coils have two wires coming from them with a plastic plug on the end with 2 male posts inside. There is another tail with 2 wires coming from the wiring loom/harness with a female plastic plug, one fits inside the other. There is a clip that locks the 2 plugs together. This is where the power comes from to operate the coils. Each coil has 2 big black spark plug leads made right into the coil they cannot be removed. The spark plug goes on the end of these.I do not touch the spark plug leads or spark plugs, I leave them where they are. The little white plastic plugs from the coils to the wiring loom/harness are the ones I switched. When I do there is no spark. When I switch them back, I have spark. Is this normal? I discovered this while trying to figure out why my #2 & #3 cylinders stop and start firing like a switch is being flipped off and on.:confused:
 
i have a set of coils from my 850 that are in good shape if you wanna see if they will help. where are you located?
