Fuel Injection

100_0455.jpg

2.0 VW throttle body, 28lb/hr injectors (plan on running 4), converting my BB25 to a FB25, megasquirt controller, and odd ebay parts to finish it off.

Bike as it sits now. I am probably going to be selling a few parts off it.

I need to do a project like this!! I just can't justify putting it onto my turbo bike.

Are you staying with a draw system? Can't wait to see this thing running.

Do you have the wheel for the F?

Yes, started with a draw system. I have an F wheel but if you have a super clean one (or know someone who does) I would be interested in it. The one I have was cut a half a thou deep balancing up the wheel at one point by the PO. It was just enough to take the nice bevel off the leading edge of the vanes. I bought an 86 FJ1200 in the mean time so if this thing isn't ready to hit the pavement on the first week I am ok on the FJ for a bit. It's hard getting stuff done with the bike in Woodstock and me living in Ottawa in an apartment.

So, r u staying with a draw system when u switch to EFI?

I changed my other turbo so both are E/F 0.40s now. The only problem is I want to do some testing first, so you would have to wait.

It won't be a draw through system anymore. I am putting the injectors right in the manifold pointing down the intake runners. No fuel going through my compressor side anymore. I am trying to use as much of the old plumbing as possible so I am keeping the turbo under my seat (instead of mounting it out front closer to the exhaust ports).

I plan to do a lot of things for my bike:
Shocks, tail-lights, exhaust, Accel Coils/Ignition, paint (not frame, though), Front brakes, stainless lines, stainless bolts, intake boots, and valve cover gasket. It'll also need to be fine tuned, but that'll be for the spring.
I sure will be busy!! Will post pics of the progress....I live in a condo, so I am going to put the bike in my "parked" van and work on it in there...
how a bout the kitchen or dining room?? ir will be warmer :-D

I was thinking the same thing. The one on the far right looks like a Kerker, the one in the middle looks more like a Yoshi pipe.....BadBillyB

Wow, you guys know your pipes. The center pipe was advertised on ebay as a Kerker. But I looked very closely at the almost unreadable decal. It's definately a Yoshimura. Solid pipes, little rust, no dents or scrapes. Nice & clean. Came off a bike with less than 9K. I paid $160 for 'em.

The other header is trash. Rust thru in some places. May have some recycle value. Hmm...maybe the can is still usable?

What can I say, I grew up with these bikes. I can't speak for bad billy bob but I'm guessing he's in the same boat.

$160? I can't find my original sales slip, but I thought they were in the $300 range new, but like when my parents used to buy bread for 5 cents .... That was the best pipe I ever had and the only one thats still around.

This is very cool! Would be very interested in hearing more about some of the details. How do you plan to regulate/control the fuel pressure for example. This will be a much more fun puzzel to work on.

Post some updates as you move along...

Hope this isn't too forward, but might you be willing to sell that Yoshi pipe for a Wes Cooley Yoshimura GS1000 replica currently being built? (pretty please!)

While I'm waiting on parts, turned a different trick this week.

This is the Beasley tub after doing a few mods. They show it being made for a TRAC chassis, but with some help from Ryan (BIG THANKS!!) it looked like it could be made to fit. Stopped counting after having pulled the rear wheel ten times. Turned out pretty nice and I think it will solve all my water problems.

Nice bikes! Never mind then. :) (Unless you might be willing to sell the Yoshi. ;) If not, say the word and the question will never be asked again.)

I'll black out my V&H 4 into 1 if not.

Wow that skunk's a beauty.

Thanks Dr H. Yeah, she was quite the catch. I want to return her to as close to stock as possible. That's why she gets the stock exhaust. And that custom seat probably goes to the red bike, too. I have a stock seat with body trim that's in pretty good condition. I sold the side covers with the Brit emblems on ebay, and found a stock set with nice silver GS emblems. I'll hafta live with the SS brake lines, and the new style engine covers. Other than that, she'll be showroom stock.

Last week was checking ebay and found a 1990 Katana 750 head with a buy it now price for 49 bucks. Couldn'y pass it up after the seller sent me a pic of the sides and it had the casting dot like the slingshot j models. Even pick up the 750 cams too.

So it showed up today and even had the intake manifold too, I measured the valves and they are 28 & 25 mm. So i guess I made out like a bandit cause so far I got only 75 bucks into it and all I need to do is a valve job and plug a few holes and will see how it goes on the GS engine.

It was really nice to get a good deal on one of these's heads after all the bull**** I went through last year when a jerk seller was talking out his but hole saying he had one.

I got a feeling this head my run faster than my 1150 head cause it had only 23mm exhaust valves and this head has 25mm. I really didn't see much of an improvement when I just installed the 29.5 valves in the 1150 head and left the oem exhaust valves in. It will be a nice to compare the 1100, 1150 and this 750 head.

If your really wanting one, I can send you some pics. of mine. Like I said, no plug for it (never used it).

Hey, your back with the living Jake. Good to hear your getting ready for this year. $75 was a steal. I am running 28.5 and 24.6 in the 1150 head. Thinking to have my old 1100 head opened up.

Here's whats going on with this head

Looks alittle funny but it goes with my bike's theme. It has 28mm intake and 25mm exhaust valves and the chamber is 22cc. Not to sure if my 13-1 pistons will work???

j2.jpg

This pic I'll need to seal up the 4 return/drain holes that are right next to the outer studs. Oil will just drain down the cam tunnel. The head is not as big as a GS one so these's hole are exposed. Another thing is this head is longer at the rear of the cam tunnel so I need alonger gasket 1/2" would work but I'll try some gasket sealer.

j3.jpg

There are 2 oil drain hole on the head that need a plug. There about 28mm in size and a automotive freeze plugs should work out?? Also you can see the rear cam tunnel part of the head that will need some RTV

j4.jpg

This pic you can see the exposed oil drain hole in the block. RTV may work or I'll just tap and install 4 plugs.

More to come

Ok Jake, I have to ask the all important question now. Are you wanting to part with the 1150 head? I don't care if the valves are still bent. I'm not in a big hurry if you want to think about it.

Will the stock cam chain work, or do you need to have one made up? I have a friend who has put together some strange Kaw engines that needed the chains made up. If your interested I will find out who supplied them.

Thanks for the offer Mark but I'm planning on keeping it. As a matter of fact I was going to order new valve's for it but since I saw this head it's on the back burner for awhile.

From what I hear a stock chain will work fine and all you do is use gs sprockets on the 750 cams. Tonight I even test fitted a GS cam chain on the 750 sprocket's and the only differance is the 750 sprocket are not as wide as the GS ones I guess.

Even the pro pipe lines up and all I need to do is alittle grinding on the outside lip and they will go right in. The only major work to do is a valve job.
With alittle luck it should be up and running by March.
