Where to list a bike - Marketplace, Craigslist, Cycle Trader, eBay...??

Well the title says it all. What are our thoughts on selling bikes these days?

I've decided to part with our Triumph Trophy 900, since the wife doesn't ride any more, and I need the space.
Still like the bike, but the GS and the TT600 will keep me plenty happy.

So who's had luck with what? I've used Craigslist and eBay before, but it was many years ago. Things change.
    Any and all advise accepted...

I don't know when it happened, but it seems CL doesn't have near the amount or maybe quality of stuff it used to (vehicles is really all I do/did on there). I believe much of it's gone to FB Marketplace... Still some old unsocial or unsavvy guys posting there some, lol. I'm exaggerating that I'm sure; there's other posters too. I had to go to CycleTrader for my current bike (don't do FB...).

I have sold my last 3 bikes on Facebook Marketplace. You have to put up with a lot of BS'ers there, like anywhere else. (The "is it available" button is a PITA!)

Craigslist seems to have fewer listings since they started charging that huge $5 fee to list a bike.

Of course, listing it on here will surely loosen up the wallets of this frugal crowd! (But you never know?)

Good luck with the sale. Someone will get a nice bike!

I can second comments on FB and CL.
eBay for bikes: I only see a few and those are usually pricey collectables.
FB search lists local bikes first and works outward. Same kinda peeps as anyplace else.

I'm still trying to get to grips with the notion of selling a motorcycle.
          Unnatural urge, it will pass.

There is a regional selling forum here, VCI.NET, I have both bought and sold there. They cover a radius of 100-150 miles or so, might check to see if there is a like site in your area A lot less scammers and spammers than CL.

I know NOTHING about how it works, success rate, etc., but have you looked at "Bring a Trailer"?
If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space.

FB Marketplace seems to be the spot these days. Sold a bike on there a month ago, not a fun process what with all the scammers, low-ballers and tire kickers, but I did get the bike moved.

BaT may be a good option, if you haven't been there before hop on and follow some auctions to get a feel for how that goes. The expectation is for significant involvement from the seller. If they accept your bike you'll likely get more for it there than anywhere else.

I assume you're on a Triumph forum? If not, that's an option too. And maybe Adventure Rider.

I look at BaT all the time, but trust me, this bike is not BaT material. Nor I am. Selling there takes significant work.

The bikes is a '99, with 52K. Starts, runs, handles great. (tires are aged out though).
Aftermarket windscreen, coils, seat. Just checked the valves a bit a go.
Cosmetically, she's a 10-15 footer. Plenty of wear marks, scrapes, stone chips, etc. Mostly from the P.O., but did my share.

But I totally forgot about Triumph Rat....Won't hurt at all to through it up there.
FB Marketplace will be my first go.

                    Thanks!

I'd hit up all the usual suspects...that don't cost (much) money. Shotgun approach. Why not?

In my recent experience (sold 5 bikes last year), FB marketplace is the #1, but as others have mentioned you inevitably deal with a lot of flakes and mouthbreathers. I really like the advrider classifieds section, it's inherently a "high trust" sort of bubble of the internet, similar to here.

ADVrider has been a good source of buy & sell for me... (I even sold the GS1100G through there). "Offer Up" has worked ok for a couple of bicycles, never tried a vehicle through there.....

You're retired Bob... you have the time to be our guinea pig for all of these formats! You can do it on any of your 6 Saturdays, take Sunday off You'll just have to go a bit less gourmet on those dinners you're making to free up some time!!

HAHA in seriousness I'd be interested to hear your verdict if you do try a few more of them.

                            Cheers,

                            Dan

I realize you're kidding, but given the flood of crap that came with my recent FB listing being retired would be a big help. Add CL to the mix and dealing with it all could be close to a full time job.
