As usual Jim I have no idea what you are referring to. "universal laws of physics" ??? My comment was about ripoff SH775 R/R's in the marketplace. ???

You are absolutely correct. I was in fact agreeing with you and taking the OP's suspicions with a "grain of salt". As you know a real series R/R is highly unlikely to cause any more heat damage than a stator already has, but as has been a few people's experience that doesn't mean that a stator will survive the previous damage.

And just so you know the exact same topic and discussion has been posted about and possibly this exact same vendor.

      it is

I ordered a Caltric on Ebay for about the same, however, I still had charging issues with that and a no name older style (but new) R/R, so I'm replacing both the Caltric stator with a Rick's stator and I've ordered the Sh-775 regulator. I noticed a weird smell last week when I was getting home after a ride. The bike died on me at my driveway. Don't know if the smell is a burnt stator or what.

I have no direct experience with this unit nor do I care to. It's clearly a ripoff product designed to deceive people into thinking it's a SH775. People that don't know better may think it's one but it isn't.

The below photo shows a REAL SH775

Notice they do not show the part number (or where it would be) on the eBay unit?

I got it from Bikebandit. http://www.bikebandit.com/oem-parts/...12941/b2796160

Bike Bandit is a reliable source. Since you ordered the Polaris part number it's safe to assume you got a real SH775.

Did you order the Triumph harness too? Best to verify all the connections before spending more money on a stator.

Again, a Rick's stator is expensive, but they have the best reputation. Most of the aftermarket stators on the market are coming from China, which isn't a guarantee they are bad mind you, but given that I'd prefer to go through a company that has a stable supply chain.

As some point these Series R/R will probably be that cheap. Someone with a AC clamp on meter should test some of these to see if they are actually series or not. Tom did a tests that would confirm proper series operation.

On the subject of Stators, I just purchased a Electro Sport $135 (made in China by the way) it looked nothing like the Electro Sport stator I bought for my 1100 three years ago. The new style looks very similar to the original stock stator. The older one (pictured) looks more robust.

This is just my uneducated opinion of course. The older Electro Sport stator has a thicker blue insulator coating. The newer Electro Sport stator seems to have a thin layer of "shellac" for insulator. I don't have a good picture of the newer one to post now. If the newer stator last for years and many miles I will obviously have no complaints. If it happens to fail this summer's riding season, I will definitely let all know...

I have long recommended the Electrosport stators because of the heavy epoxy coating you show in the picture. They seemed to be the exception rather than the rule for not using thin clear almost non existent coatings.

The winding need to be immobilized to avoid flexure from the electromotive force on the winding when they produce power. Unfortunately even with a Series R/R if there is flexure it will eventually cause stator failure. With lower stator currents it is not as important , but it is a shame to see Electrosport moving to the lower end side of the market. It is basically a market dynamic, you can have the greatest product in the world, but if the customer doesn't understand or think they need it, the product will fail in the market place.

I don't think a thick external coating is a direct measure of quality. Where I work we assemble motors for a few (aerospace) products and none of the stators have that killer thick coating. These motors spin at 25,000 rpm's too and they are decently sized (not tiny).

I think the OEM stators are made by ND aren't they? Not exactly a shady operation.
