Changing the harness won't impact the charging system if you wired the system like the diagram I showed. The only possible issue the harness could cause is voltage loss on the way back to the battery from the + out at the R/R. And if you checked this loss per the diagram then you would know if this is contributing.Ed

I was due to replace the entire harness, was my original plan from the beginning before the charging issue.
There were some wires that had gotten hot where the insulation was a bit melted.I notice the results of testing it are identical after replacing the stator and reg/rect SH775.
I have replaced the stator(new part),the reg/rect(SH775 used)and a complete new connecting harness:soldered connections to spade terminals from the SH775 to my main harness.
The battery was charged yesterday, left to sit overnight and had 13.06vts this morn.
My 82' headlight(GS450TXZ)switch had a problem over a year ago, I took it apart on my trip back here from Mi and when I did I lost little spring:the one that 'centers' the single, central knob(the high beam/low beam part)and I found out I was burning both beams at once... I just took it for a ride and tested it again. Looks good !Last edited by grcamna2; 07-31-2019, 10:21 PM.

Yep, the extra load of another headlight filament is just enough to drag the voltage down. Good that you found it.

Now I have a spare reg/rect(SH678C) and a spare factory stator ! It never hurts to have extra charging system stuff
I'm going to take a hard look at all the components that attach to the harness, replace the harness, headlight switch, etc. Electrics are 37 yrs old on this bike..Last edited by grcamna2; 08-01-2019, 01:48 AM.

Reviving this thread from a while back to answer a question on how to hook-up my SH775 for single phase operation using only 2 of the 3 stator coil connections:this is a separate SH775 question.I ask you to forgive me for bringing a little Honda into this thread.. I need a better charging system on it also. The 82' CB125S using an OEM Honda 83' XL200R engine w/ stock 12vt electrical system swapped-over into the bike, this little bike is single phase and I will only be hooking up 2 stator coil wires to the SH775 where with my GS450T had 3 yellow stator coil wires(3-phase)and I really like the little bike so I want this excellent Series Type SH775 reg/rect in it too.Can anyone here help me know which of the 3 yellow stator coil leads on the SH775 I would want to use to connect only the 2 wires? The outer 2 yellows on the SH775 3-spade plug and leave the inner one open? Or one outer and the middle one while leaving one outer one blank ? Thanks,Bill

If the Honda is a permanent magnet alternator and not field-coil controlled, then just connect the two outputs to any two of the SH-775 inputs - I can't see that it matters which two, as they're all the same, in effect. When in normal use, it makes no difference to them which of the normal 3 wires is connected to which input, so just have at it.
It won't hurt anything to try it. It will either work or it won't.

Hi Grimly,
Yes,The 83' XL200R is permanent magnet inside the AC alternator rotor/flywheel:I was going to do as you mentioned but wasn't really sure if 'any two will do'.I had a very helpful post a good while back that another member had directed me to when I did the install of the SS775 into my GS450 but I can't find it now.I know the red and black are + & - and want to make sure to get them connected the best way for the longest duration. That GS450T has been excellent ever since installing a fresh stator and my SH775.
Edit:OOPs,my bad.The diagram has been located, right on this thread.. I apologize for my OCD.Last edited by grcamna2; 10-28-2020, 12:45 PM.

I will confirm: connect your two stator wires to any two of the inputs.
I used to have OCD, but I got over it.
Now I have CDO. It's a lot like OCD, but it's alphabetized, LIKE IT SHOULD BE.

instead of "Obsessive Compulsive Disorder" (OCD) you have "Compulsive Disorder Obsessive" (CDO)?
That's interesting...
I have "CRS", Can't Remember $hlt" from time to time...lol!

Proper bench testing would involve building a jig to present it with three-phase AC and measuring the output.
Otoh, the simplest method is to test pin-to-pin with a multimeter.
To do that, you need a known-good one to make a matrix chart and then test the unknown one.---- Dave
