I would rather trust my bike to a technician that reads the service manual than some backyardigan that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix things.

It's good to see someone moving along quickly with similar ideas. I'm sure you'll be done before me so you'll have to let me know how it rides. Where did you get your rear shocks? How long are they? I'm thinking of putting 14-15in shocks to get some swingarm angle back after putting on my front forks and lowering it about 3in in the front. It will take away some rake but a balance must be found. Hence, why I'm excited to see yours get finished so you can tell me about her performance ha. Anyway, good job again and keep up the good work.1978 Gs1085 compliments of Popy Yosh, Bandit 1200 wheels and front end, VM33 Smoothbores, Yosh exhaust, braced frame, ported polished head

O and last question for a while: Did your 170 rear tire clear pretty well? Would you clear your swingarm legs and chain with a 180?

So a 180 would be really tight on the swingarm, can't answer for the chain, but I believe it will fit in that aspect, would beable to answer more acuratly in a few days.
My 170 measures 169.4mm wide @ 34 psi, Bridgestone Battleaxe BT021.

Hey I appreciate the quick responses. I figured it would be pretty tight! I may just go with a 170 to be safe and not have to whip out a grinder on my nice little swingarm since I went through all the trouble of finding it and what not.
Originally posted by Fjbj40 View PostWith the wheel/tire all the way ahead it rubs very lightly on the swingarm. If it is pulled back 2-3 detents on the chain adjusters it has just over a 1/4" clearance.

Oh dang that's wide! Good to know because I think I'm just going to put on a 4.5" so mine will definitely clear with plenty of room

Have you thought about mobbing the rear brake torque arm to the inside of the caliper? Will give you more exhaust clearance.
