A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

1981 GSX1100 Katana Based Project

While the Kat has been waiting for the refurbished starter clutch I went shopping and found a short length titanium and carbon muffler for the project. The muffler arrived today and was very pleased to see it weigh 290 grams less than the carbon muffler in current use.

Curb Weight Running Tally: 197.475 kg.
The old and new mufflers length compared.

@Shin-Ken 1074

Over the last couple of days I have read, with great pleasure, through this whole topic, all 41 pages of it. Thank you so much for meticulously keeping track of your progress and posting all the weights, what a tremendous amount of work it must have been.

It's inspirational, and you have inspired me to approach one of my projects in a slightly different way than planned, and it has to do with weight savings (no shit?) :).

If I could, I would nominate this topic to be eternalised in some kind of Internet archive of interesting topics. Forums are a dying breed unfortunately and the kind of knowledge, experience and effort displayed here...you simply won't find that in what constitutes the forums replacement; social media...

This is one of the greats, thank you.

Hello WolfTechnics,

Thank you for your comments and understanding regarding the Project, they are very much appreciated. Great to hear you have a like minded project in the mill and Iam very interested to know what you have planned. Hope to see your project started here soon and I'll be no doubt one of the many to follow it along.

What part of the world are you in?

Cheers.

I am based on the Netherlands.

The project to follow is my GS500e 1989 OEM+ build right now.

My dream build will be another 2 years or so before I can really focus on it. The plan is a super lightweight Gs450 frame with a gs400 bottom end. Through a combination of parts and custom parts I want to build a high powered monster, utilizing either a gr650 2 valve head or a cut down gsxr750 4 valve head.

The inspiration I got from this topic is to aim less for maximum HP and more for less weight.

Netherlands, thanks. Raw HP (not the sauce), can be fun however, full on hotrods with a ton of power tend to break components and take the shine off a good ride day. Nothing wrong about hotrods and power, they are great as long as you are prepared for the downtime.

My project was designed to exploit the benefits of power to weight ratio with mild engine power mods ( 1197 kit, modified carbs, Yoshi stage 2 hollow cams, 5 plane valve seat cut) and making a stock scooter as light as I could within my skill level and budget. The head and barrels needed to be worked on at an engineering shop however, pretty much everything else is a DIY at home job.

Cheers.
