    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

what did you wrench on today??

Adjusted the valves on the project 81 650e and then spent the next 4 hours scrapping the cover gasket off the head. I have never seen one glued that tight.What a PIA
 
Put a Shinko 712 on the rear of the 79. New chain and sprocket set goes on tomorrow.
At least I won't be able to use that excuse for not riding it once riding weather gets here.

Who am I kidding? Still got lots of work to do before the next ride.
 
I used a wire brush on a drill to remove 30 years of rust, grease and road muck from the chain adjusters and axels of my GSX400FX. Then I primed and painted then. It's probably futile but satisfying all the same.IMG_20220117_221144.jpg

Finished cleaning up the valves of the GS1000E today, getting closer to start the process of lapping the valves and then start putting the top end back together unless I run into more stuff that needs attention. Got to check the valve guides for sure, I think #3 exhaust might have to be replaced. Don't know for sure yet.

Anyway, I just wanted to post this to see if posting pictures from flickr is still as easy on this newly updated forum.

Finished cleaning up the valves of the GS1000E today, getting closer to start the process of lapping the valves and then start putting the top end back together unless I run into more stuff that needs attention. Got to check the valve guides for sure, I think #3 exhaust might have to be replaced. Don't know for sure yet.

You are aware that carbon deposits are what holds these old motors together aren't you? LOL:p

Gave the GS some fresh oil and a filter, cleaned the K&N air filter and checked valves today.

I've checked every 4k miles or so and valve clearances haven't changed in the last 8k miles. It's got about 56,600 miles as far as I can tell (changed the speedo around 50k) and I'm hoping to get another 50k before overhaul.

Ever since getting a squirt of oil in my face a while back while rotating the crank by hand, I've used a little syringe to clear it out from around the buckets. Couldn't find the syringe so I improvised. Silly contraption, but functional.

 
I just finished valve shims, throttle body balance, and coolant flush on my Street Triple. Never in my life have I cursed so much! I miss working on Japanese bikes. There’s one bracket that holds both side fairings, the radiator, clutch cable and throttle cable routings, the air intake boot, etc. Then there’s just barely too little clearance to fit a wrench or socket on 10% of the hardware. It seems like Triumph engineering is a little too cute and my hunch is that’s why they’re known for issues. But, once done properly it’s the smoothest and most crisp bike I’ve ever ridden.

Nice to see you back posting here Joe! I guess HI is treating you well enough. Where do you ride a street triple over there in anything past 2nd gear?? :)
 
Thanks! It's good to be back - this really is an incredible forum and group of riders.

There isn't much room to wind out the bike. There are a few highways but I do spend a lot of time in 2nd and 3rd. I do often ride around the coast between Honolulu and Kailua (72), and across the mountains between the two (Pali, Likelike, H3.) And I'll be riding up to North Shore a lot (H2). But yeah, this is the reason I sold my baby GSX-S1000F. I was physically ill after selling that bike but there's just no sensible reason to have a liter bike here. The Street Triple (675) is really snappy so it's still fun to ride. I have a 170cc scooter which is highway capable but not highway comfortable, so the ST does feel pretty appropriate.

Changed the Bandit’s fork seals and installed new Sonic Springs this weekend. Now to go find a 350 mile test route so I can hit the magic number on the odometer ;)
