The set of Vetter Bagman panniers and the radio pod for the Windjammer has arrived, together with the harness for the Windjammer and a radio!:D

These were delivered by the little "Traveler" (on top of the right hand box) who started in Australia and has just come down from Michigan in the USA. At the moment he is resting before undertaking the next part of his journey!

Good stuff! Those bags are shiny... are they chromed or is that just shiny plastic?

And what's the deal with the "traveller"? There's gotta be a story there...

Pete,

The bagman luggage Andre' is showing in the picture is made out of two ABS plastic shells (each), with a cordura nylon covering the sides and across the complete back. the front panel you see is the exposed ABS portion of the front shell and is painted black. the inside of the bags have zippered linings in them and the bags open from the bottom. the bags are made water entry resistant by a double zippered closure.

Pete, you do recall when Simon and Deb visited America last year? one of the places they visited while over here was my house. along with them they brought those koala bears you see setting on top the bag, to, I assume, give people they met while visiting. Simon and Deb gave four of them to my wife and I. so, I specifically took the blue one, because it matched Andre's bike, and sent it along when I shipped Andre's items.

so you see, after having traversed three quarters of the way around the globe so far, the Koala you see sitting on top the bagman in the picture is what I have labeled a true world "traveler"...

and that as it were, is 'almost' the rest of the story.

Thanks Dale.:)

Pete, the traveler may even make it back to OZ one day!

The shiny part was me not having my cap on! As Dale knows I am planning to redo the black outer to match the blue on my bike and the Windjammer. The bag decals will also be redone to match the Windjammer V.

I am very pleased with those Bagman panniers. Dale found those on ebay as a USA only sale and with his logistical expertise those items arrived here in good order! They do not seem to be plentiful. Thanks again Dale.:D

Sounds like a good set of bags for sure, very handy, especially with some water resistance.

And yep, I remember Simon and Deb's Excellent Adventure :D

That is definitely one well travelled little koala there!

Thanks Dale.:)

Excellent stuff, it's always good to see the help and assistance that's available on here, that's for sure.

Those bags should go well colour matched to the rest, looking forward to seeing how you go :)

Progress to date:
The Windjammer has been sanded and the radio has been installed in the CycleSound pod for testing.

Here is the sanded Windjammer being prepared for primer:

Nice work gluing the inner cut line! that was my biggest concern of the whole project.

have you held the bagmans alongside your bike to see if they properly balance the look of the windjammer?

about the paint booth you spoke of, any progress on that front?

are you planning to use a single stage urethane on the windjammer and base/clear on the bike? or is it going to be all B/C?

The Bagmans look perfect and helps balance out the skinnny effect at the back with the Windjammer fitted. I have to give the Bagman mounting some thought as well.

I will go for the 2k base and clearcoat on bike and WJ. At the moment still a lot of preparation to do before I can get any primer on, which I will do here at home.

I want to do the fitting and cutting of the lowers next, so they can be sanded and prepared for primer. That may need some time.

Tomorrow I can get the GS out as the CBR has just been picked up and I have some work space again.:)

Awesome link Dale!!! Going to make one of these before shooting any more nasty isocyanate paint.
Thanks Ed! making up something like that, a pair of goggles and using a 'tyvek' suit (or cheap rain suit) should keep you relatively safe.

I like that! I have just thrown my old respirator away! Excellent solution though!

I think will do the windshield bending before any painting, to minimize any scratching of the new paintwork. So the next job will be building the oven and the mold and doing a test bend to get the proper minimum temperature and check the performance before I commit a full size bit of polycarbonate.

Here is the mold for bending the windshield. Once I have made a template of the inner curve I will use it to adjust the bend in the plywood to match.
This is all experimental at the moment and I hope it works as planned.

An approximate template of the windshield cut from cardboard:

The new 5mm thick Perspex to be used:
Edit (I have been advised to not use Polycarbonate due the difficulties to bend it at home.)

The mold is not completed yet. Once I have the exact curvature then some support will be put under the plywood. The plan is to fabricate an oven that will accommodate the mold with an adjustable thermostat and a digital thermometer. The idea is then to heat the polycarbonate to the minimum heat required to bend it over the plywood and then let it cool down slowly with some weights on the two outer sides.
The cutting to shape will only be done after the bending.

Any advice will be appreciated.:)

The wood fibers in your forming surface may leave an slight impression in the Naxel. depending on the heating temperature I used when I 'unformed/reformed' the old windscreen, the plywood surface left an impression during my 'testing' on it. because of this possibility I would suggest a smoother surface (thin sheet metal?) added to the top of your plywood surface.
