The perfect cheap damper holder. That's a standard 5/8" sparky socket inverted and 18" of extensions.

    Onward and upward!

Love it when USPS has something besides bills for me.

I have a Morgan carbtune set up for syncing the carbs. Let me know if you need a hand. I'm no expert but i've done it once. One hour south.

Yesterday was very productive! I reassembled the carbs as much as I could (#3 is missing a couple of things) and installed all the new o rings and gaskets. Installed my intake manifolds after soaking them in armor all for 24 hours. Did new o rings and ss allen heads on those.

Have the gauges about 90% finished now. Repainting the trim rings and hoping to reassemble tonight or tomorrow. Also soaked the gauge enclosure in armor all in hopes of bringing out the nice black plastic... it worked decently.

Painted the fork lowers and the triples before reassembly.

Decided to pull the valve cover and attempt the valves. I've seen a few cam lobes in my short life, and these look like they can't possibly have 40k miles of wear on them. Either that or these GS cams wear really well. Thoughts?

Just waiting to buy the rest of my engine gaskets and carb parts before I can fire it up. How exciting!

Mate you're flyin' along! Everything looks good and well covered off so far

As to those lobes, mine's done 96000km's and they look like that too, so I think they're just built tough like everything else on these GS' (except the electrics).

Heh, I don't like wasting any time just in case something big comes up that I need to plan for, know what I mean? I like tearing it all down so I can assess any needs, and then going from there.

Front wheel bearings and she'll be a roller... argh payday needs to hurry up

Forgot to give you this link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...T#ht_500wt_956

MUCH LESS than getting them locally or from the Suzuki store.
I ordered 3 sets just to have some spares.
The 1100 and your 850 use the same bearings front and rear.
                Also the 750's '77-'84?

                    Lots of progress... feels good.

First off, the tank. I used "The Works" toilet bowl cleaner. I'm pleased with the results, and for the minimal cost, I think it came out decently well. The residual rust I have tried to scrape and it's not going anywhere.

Fancy method for drying out the tank in a hurry, you like?

I told myself I wasn't going to put a lot of time into the tank... 6 hours of bodywork, priming, wet sanding, painting, and touching up later...

And I've ordered everything to get the engine back together and wheel bearings so I can roll this beast around. Hoping to get it running after my yard sale this weekend.

I wanted to see what I could do on the wheels, so I bought some cheap metal polish and a couple of grades of steel wool. I first scrubbed with the "1" and water to remove the... crud that was all over the rims. Then I dried and polished with the "00" and metal polish. Buffed to a shine with a terry towel. Spent less than 2 hours on the both of them, can't complain with the results either.

I forgot t take pics of the back wheel, but it came out as good looking as the front; even though the corrosion/crud was about 3 times worse.

Those wheels really cleaned up nice. I like your dryer. I bet it worked good. Did you put any type of coating in the tank? Check and grease your rear spline ( driven gear ?) while you have the wheel off. Honda Moly 60 is the ticket to use for the spline. The Honda dealer in Medford didn't have any when I needed some and ordered it on the net. you've been busy. Cheers!

Yeah, I've been working away. I'd like to have it running by the time the weather finally begins to cooperate. My girlfriend has been antsy to learn to ride for so long, but the thought of her trying to ride my CBR terrifies me in ways I can't even describe.

I actually just fogged the tank with WD40 while it was hot (and I mean hot). Just waiting on my petcock kit so I can put it back together and get gas in it. I don't think that will be the final tank on it when I do the full custom work on it this winter. Not sure yet, we'll see how it flows with the rest of the parts I line up.

I do really like these wheels. Almost making me reconsider throwing a modern front end on it. Almost.

Think I might thread the wiring harness tonight. Here's to hoping I got everything laid out correctly!

I'm about to do my front forks as well, is this the tool the Basscliff mentions making? His required welding and whatnot, does this do the job effectively?

The main part of the harness, goes into the frame just above the rear of the engine compartment.
                                Those BIG connectors barely fit!
It probably will not go in from the back to the front.
